Microscopy & Microanalysis 96
On-Line Abstract Retrival

Abstracts for the M&M 96 meeting are now available on-line from the Microscopy Society of America WWW Server.

All Conference abstracts have been digitized and stored in Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF format. A public domain reader for this format is available FREE from Adobe. If you download the latest copy of Adobe Reader and are running a WWW browser with compatible plug-in capabilities you may read the abstract on-line rather than downloading them to your computer.

Here is the URL to download a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader for Mac's, PC's and Unix machines, which will allow you to access and read on-line the Microscopy & Microanalysis 96 Proceedings.

I have tested the on-line viewing capabilities using NetScape Version 2.01 WWW Browser and Adobe Acrobat Version 3.0 Plug-Ins on a 8100/80 MacIntosh and find them to work reasonably well. No other versions or combinations have been tested at this time. I have noticed that some combinations of NetScape and the Adobe Plug-In occasionally lock up the computer print queues if you try to PRINT from NetScape. If you wish to print the abstract you have just viewed I would recommend that you turn off the Plug-In Module and just download the document to your local computer first, and then try to print directly from Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Notes on documents

All documents were digitized from PHOTOCOPIES not from the ORIGINALS, which were sent directly to the publisher and were therefore not available for digital transcription. As a result the quality of some of the figures and some text is only average, particuliarly when the authors supplied poor photocopies. However, the vast majority are acceptable for surveying the manuscript contents. Formulae, sub/super-scripts and some scientific symbols in the body of the text were generally not translated by the OCR program used to produce these documents. If you are interested in those details you will have to refer to the original manuscripts in the hardcopy verions of the proceedings. In addition, the images in the on-line abstracts are NOT stored in high resolution format in order to minimize the download times for documents.

The purpose of these on-line access is to provide a simple rapid means of reference to the majority of information in the proceedings. This on-line service is not meant to replace, but rather to supplement, the Proceedings as a publication. This is particuliarly important for those microscopists/microanalysts who do not have immediate access to their own or library copies.

If you wish to view high quality originals you or your library should purchase a copy of the Microscopy & Microanalysis 96 Proceedings from the Society and our publisher.
