Sunday Evening Reception
The traditional opening event will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Knott's Camp Snoopy in the Mall of America. Camp Snoopy is the largest indoor amusement park in the U.S. with 23 rides and attractions on 7 acres. Dress informally and enjoy E unlimited rides,2 beverage tickets per person (includes beer and wine), a buffet dinner t (served 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.), and a full cash bar. Our food and beverages will be served in a separate reserved function area of the park and the rides and attractions will be closed to the general public at 7:00 p.m. but remain open for us until 10:00 p.m.. The Mall shops (about 400 stores) close at 7:00 p.m. but the hallways remain open for store- front browsing.
Buses for the reception will leave from the Convention Center starting at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7:00 p.m. Return buses to the Convention Center will leave the Mall starting at 8:00 p.m. and run until 10:30 p.m. After the reception, if you wish to stay and visit the entertainment complex at the Mall (which includes Planet Hollywood, Gatlin Brothers Music City, comedy clubs and sports bars) there will be a bus returning to the hotels at midnight.
If you want to explore the Mall earlier in the day there will be shuttle buses leaving the Convention Center hourly starting at 11:00 a.m.
Admission is included with all paid registrations. Additional tickets at $40 each ($25 for children 42" and under; very young children who will not be going on the rides are free) can be purchased Sunday in the registration area of the Convention Center from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
University of Minnesota
Gabbert Raptor Center
The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota provides medical treatment, rehabilitation, research, and conservation of birds of prey, and has grown since 1972 into a worldwide resource for education and training in this important area. A tour of the research labs, clinic, and outdoor birding area has been arranged for Sunday, August 11. A bus will leave the Convention Center at 12:30 p.m. and return to the Convention Center at approximately 2:30. Cost is $8 per person. Reservations can be made on the Advance Registration Form.
MYSTIC Lake Casino
Located just south of the Twin Cities, Mystic Lake is one of the country's newest gaming and entertainment facilities. Recently expanded, this American Indian Casino has 340,000 square feet of entertainment including 125 blackjack tables, 2300 loose slots, a 1200 seat bingo palace and five restaurants. On Tuesday a bus will leave the Convention Center at 6:00 p.m., and return from the Casino at 9:00. Cost is $5 per person. Participants must provide their own money for gaming and meals. Sign- up will done at the Meeting on Sunday and Monday.
Golf Tournament
This will be our ninth annual golf tournament; so bring your clubs and join the group on Sunday morning at the beautiful Oak Glenn Country Club in Stillwater, MN. Members of MSA, MAS, MSC/SMC and exhibitors are welcome to participate and enjoy this lovely golf course. Oak Glenn is a lush, rolling course with picturesque water layouts on 14 of 18 holes. Transportation will be provided from the downtown meeting hotels and teeoff times are set for late morning. The format will be a blind draw, fourperson scramble with prizes for different skills including longest drive, closest to hole and others. SIGN UP EARLY as only 40 slots are available for play. Cost will be approximately $55 per person.

Wednesday Evening Dinner Cruise
Everyone is invited to dinner and a cruise on the navigational headwaters of the Mighty Mississippi River. On Wednesday, the Anson Northrup is a two- decked sidewheeler that will take us on a three hour (7:00 to 10:00) narrated cruise starting at Boom Island, going downstream past downtown Minneapolis, through the upper and lower St. Anthony locks and past the campus of the University of Minnesota. The buffet dinner will include chicken and BBQ ribs and there will be a cash bar. The upstream return trip will feature entertainment by the Medicine Music Show Company. Tickets are $35 and include transportation to and from the Convention Center. Tickets can be ordered on the Advance Registration Form or purchased at the Meeting, subject to availability. Capacity is limited and requests will be handled on a first- come, first- served basis.
MAYO CLINIC TOUR
A day trip to the world famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, has been scheduled for Friday, August 16 (the day after the Meeting ends). The agenda will include a general tour of the clinic as well as a presentation by some of the staff in the microscopy and imaging research areas. For lunch we will travel to Mantorville, MN (about 15 miles from Rochester) - this town is composed of many restored buildings, including Minnesota' s oldest working courthouse. We' ll eat at the Hubbell House which is a former stage coach stop and hotel established in 1854 (and a nationally registered historical site).

Cost is S25 per person and includes lunch. This event will need a minimum of 30 participants and will be limited to 50 participants. Sign up on the Advance Registration Form; pre- registration is required.
UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
CHARACTERIZATION FACILITY TOUR
The Characterization Facility in the Center for Interfacial Engineering is housed in a four- year old custom- designed center and includes scanning and transmission elec tron microscopes, visible light and, scanned probe instruments as well as X- ray and RBS analysis. Computer equipment is also available for image processing and image simulation as well as data collec tion and archiving. A tour of this facility will be offered on the Friday following the Meeting or, exceptionally, by arrangement at other times. Sign- up will be done at the Meeting.
GUTHRIE THEATER SWALKER ART CENTER SCULPTURE GARDENS
The Guthrie Theater is considered one of the finest regional live theaters in the world. The neighboring Walker Art Center contains a permanent collection of modern art and special exhibitions. Adjacent is the largest urban sculpture garden in the U.S. highlighted by the giant Spoonbridge and Cherry fountain.
Minneapolis Institute of Art Children's Theater
The Art Institute features 80,000
works spanning 4000 years
including sculpture, photography, paintings, drawings and prints.
STATE CAPITAL
Overlooking downtown St. Paul is this Italian Renaissance building, designed by Cass Gilbert, and home of Minnesota's State Government since 1905. It is crowned with the world's largest unsupported marble dome.
Science Museum of Minnesota
This museum offers displays about anthropology, biology, technology and natural sciences. Its Omnitheater presents filmed programs about space and science on its five story domed theater.
