Call for Papers - Proceedings
Members of the sponsoring Societies and others interested in the Meeting' s scope are invited to submit scientific papers for presentation. Instructions to authors begin on page 9. The deadline for receipt of extended abstracts is March 15, 1996. Papers received after that date will not be accepted.
All papers will be published as extended two- page abstracts (with high- quality half- tone reproduction) in the Proceedings, a special issue of the Journal of the Microscopy Society of America. The Proceedings will be available at the Meeting. Full Registrants receive a copy of the Proceedings as part of their registration fee; others can order copies on the Advance Registration Form on the inside back cover. Proceedings can be purchased after the Meeting directly from the publisher. A limited number of copies will be available for sale at the Meeting.
Advance registrants can elect to have the Proceedings shipped to them directly from the publisher, for a nominal fee, by checking the appropriate box on the Advance Registration Form. However, directly shipped Proceedings will not be received until after the Meeting. Convenient facilities will be available for shipping Proceedings, as well as other items, from the Meeting site.
Registration
Save money and time by using the Advance Registration Form on the inside back cover. For registrations received after July 15, the fees are $50- 60 higher for Full Registrants, and $30 higher for Students and Guests.
Student Registration is restricted to current MSA, MAS and MSC/ SMC Student Members. Other bona fide full- time university students may register at student rates but must include with their registration forms a letter from an advisor verifying full- time student status. Emeritus Registration is for current Emeritus Members of the sponsoring Societies. Social Guest Registration is intended for those accompanying other registrants in a social, rather than scientific, context. Special One- Day and Two- Day Registrations are available for those interested only in a specific segment of the program.
Cancellations and requests for refunds for registration fees will be honored (less a $40 handling fee) if received in writing by August 9, 1996. There will be no refunds after that date.

Minneapolis
Minneapolis, the "City of Lakes," has 22 of them within the city limits and maintains 153 parks and 45 miles of pathways which adds up to "the best park system in the United States" (National Recreation and Park Association Congress). The Convention Center is located at the edge of downtown and is just 2 blocks from the Nicollet Mall - a 12 block pedestrian/transit street with fountains, restaurants, street furniture, boutiques and stores. Loring Park is just 4 blocks away and from there, via elevated walkway, you can reach the Walker Art Center/Minneapolis Sculpture Garden (featuring the giant "Spoonbridge and Cherry"). It' s 12 blocks (a short trolley ride) to the Mississippi River and the Mississippi Mile, a riverfront area that offers parks, entertainment, shops, restaurants and a history walk. Between the Convention Center and the river is a vibrant downtown which is home to 30,000 people.
In Minneapolis this August you can expect high temperatures of 82deg.F (28deg.C) and lows of 59deg.F (15deg.C). Should it rain you can use climate-controlled pedestrian skyways that connect 51 city blocks including department stores, shopping centers, restaurants, entertainment, meeting hotels and the Convention Center.
